Voyatzi family comes from Velvento, a picturesque town in western Macedonia, located 33 km southeast of Kozani, on the foothills of Pieria Mountains, by the Lake Polyfytos. Which two labels should visitors take with them, as a reminder of their visit?
Certainly, the Lefkotsiknias and the Tsapournakos.

Lefkotsiknias is a migratory lake bird with impressive elegance and refinement, like the wine produced by the flagship Greek variety Assyrtiko, which has been perfectly adapted to the terrestrial climate of Velvento. It is a dry wine with strong aromas and characters which bring intense floral citrus, pineapple and hints of honey. Full-bodied, rich, with a well-balanced acidity and alcohol that ends up in a long aftertaste.

Tsapournakos is a rare and special variety found in the region of Velvento and belongs to the Cabernet Franc family. It is a dry red wine with particular aromas that combine floral and fruit hints such as red berry and citrus together with spices,.smoky, herbs and spicy characters, composing a complex bouquet. It’s taste is smooth with well-structured and balanced tannins, rich, with a long aromatic persistence. A very attractive wine, with essence and elegance, that captures the special character of the variety.
What are the highlights of the wider region that visitors should not miss?
Velvento, a traditional settlement with notable Byzantine and post-Byzantine monuments, is surrounded by a beautiful landscape composed by the verdant slopes of Pieria Mountains. The visitor can stroll the Skepasmenos paths with its small ponds and waterfalls, the 56 picturesque chapels and the fertile plain full of orchards and vineyards. The Folklore Museum located in the village of Velvento and the artificial lake of Polyfytos is worth to be mentioned.
In case you find yourself in the area on the first weekend of August, you should not miss the peach fest held every year in the village square, taste the various delicacies and enjoy the local music.
